414 Becker Avenue SW was constructed new as the education wing of Vinje Lutheran Church, which once stood on the corner of 5th Street and Becker Avenue. The current parking lot just west of 414 Becker was the joining piece between the two buildings (see the “wounds” on the west side of 414 where the addition was stripped away. The Vinje congregation made the decision to build a new church on Willmar Avenue SW, and the original church was demolished. For a time, Lutheran Social Services was housed at 414 Becker, then there was a dinner theatre called the Red Ruby. For a while, the caretaker lived on the top floor, then the building had one office tenant and maintenance had not been done for years. The building was sold in 2005 and has been completely renovated. 414 Becker Avenue SW has, since 2005, housed an interior and event design firm, a specialty retail store and assorted rental offices. This historic building has poured concrete floors and walls.
