Our Mission
Increase access to, appreciation for, and enjoyment of healthy, local foods through local food system & community development


Urban Greenhouses

  • Minnwest Technolgy Campus Greenhouse: a longtime community asset, equipped with solar and biomass heating units. WDC and volunteer partners are growing chemical-free greens for the Willmar Public Schools, fall to spring
  • In Spring 2014 the WDC will build two passive solar greenhouses on Willmar Area Food Shelf Property

Community Food Center (CFC)

  • A community space revolving around local food, providing local foods year round and educating consumers on the benefits of local foods
  • CFC will grow and acquire produce from local growers, including fruits, vegetables, and herbs and will provide the following services: storage, aggregation, value-added processing, co-packing, retail, kitchen rental, lunchtime meals, education and event space

New Growers Initiative

  • Provide 1/4 acre land plots and hands-on education to new growers, enabling new growers to gain the necessary skills to effectively manage a food plot from season beginning to end

Community Food Priorities

  • Gathering priorities for systems change, including cultivating community food culture, local food policy changes, engaging potential institutional buyers, access to land for interested growers, education & cooking, coalition-building
